Get Rid of the Fat Tax!

The whole world has gotten used to paying more money for plus-sized clothes. I always assumed there was an additional expense for more fabric. Now that we have started our own clothing and accessory line, I can personally tell you that it is a sham and a "fat tax" is unnecessary and disrespectful. 

We buy shirts that are made from USA grown cotton and apply transfers to them at our equine ranch in Missouri. Its called Von Holten Ranch voted Missouri's Best Ranch 2024. Even though we are an online store we also host equine and homesteading events. 

We design our transfers and provide sizes from X-small to XXXXX-Large, depending on what is available for the brand and color of shirt that we design, the most I have seen at an at-cost price, even for 4 and 5X sizes the largest cost increase I have seen is $4.00. The price increase for hoodies may be a bit more but it doesn't exceed $6.00. When people are marking up plus sized clothing $20-$25 more, it is a norm in the clothing industry that does not have to be the norm. 

The only way that I could justify increasing the price is if I had to design two transfers instead of one to cover the surface area of the shirt. But it still would not exceed the price increase that is customary in the clothing industry. 

Do you know that plus size clothing that is donated to Goodwill is still marked up more that regular size clothing? 

With myself, Brandy Von Holten, the owner of Country Tough and Big Boss Mare, fluctuating between 2-3X sizes, I wanted to stop the 'fat tax" and not be part of the insanity of charging plus size people an astronomical increase for their clothing. 

This is why all t-shirts in our store are the same price whether they are X-small or 5XL. Hopefully other businesses will see us taking a stand and join our ideology and get rid of the fat tax!
